We found a great new place to visit today that is free! We went to the Tennessee Agriculture Museum. I have heard about it before but just never visited. Well they have Summer Saturdays in July where each Saturday has a different theme. Today was Old MacDonald's Farm. We spent three hours there and had so much fun. Next Saturday we have other plans but the following Saturday I think we will go back for "Wild Wings & Creeping Things.
First we toured the museum. I was surprised that they enjoyed it. Jessica asked a lot of questions that I couldn't answer. One of the guides came over and talked to her for awhile about food and what they ate. Here they are looking at toys that kids played with. Things made from wood and corn husks.
One of the things they used in the fields.
Here they are looking in on an old bedroom and things that they would have used or had.
This was one of the blacksmiths tools. There were two things to turn that the kids had fun with.
After the metal was hot he would pound it out to make what he needed.
Jessica helped turn the wheel to keep the fire burning. She would have stayed and helped all day I think.
Here he is actually twisting the metal with a vise.
After the blacksmith, we went and watched them make soap. Over a fire it takes three days to make a batch of soap. At home it would take about three hours. So we bought a bar of homemade soap and Jessica who is into makeup, bought some homemade lip gloss.
By the soap making station, there was a trail, so we followed it down.
And found this. Beautiful area to play.
Jessica liked the lily pads.
Very sweet little bridge. Here is when I wish I new how to take better pictures. This was a great area for some great pictures.
Jessica on the bridge. She would not let me hold the bag with her lip gloss.
Back up the hill we saw someone spinning either cotton or wool. Jessica asked a lot about these in the museum, so here she got to see one.
Touching the wool.
Both the kids watching her spin.
Then we found the sheep. They both liked these. They keep feeling them hay and leaves.
The had a baby pony.
And a big horse. But the big horse would have knocked the kids down if you got too close, he kept pushing you. Someone fed him an apple slice and I think that was all he wanted after than.
A Saddle that they could play on.
We got to watch them wash and groom a horse. Washed him down and sprayed them off and cleaned their hoofs and cleaned out their nose. lol. They keep the police patrol horses there and I think this was one of them.
Yes they love each other.......sometimes.
Riding the donkey. I had them wait to do this last. They were very excited.
Nathan on his donkey.
Then they let the big kids help lead them.
All in all a good trip.
When I got home I left the kids with daddy and headed to the grocery store with my coupons. I spent two hours but saved about $35 dollars in coupons, $20 in store discounts and another $5 in p&G savings. I love watching the numbers go down at the end of the transaction! Best buys ???I got the big boxes of puffs for .50cents, I got a Free toothbrush!, Kraft dressing .69 cents, chex mix bag for $1, Kraft shreeded cheese for $1, Marie Callenders Frozen dinner for .79cents etc.
Then Chris and I out last night. Got a babysitter and went downtown. We ended up at Amerigo's. I had never been there before. We both got the shrimp bisque soup which was great. (My favorite is the lobster bisque at Ruth Chris Steakhouse!) and I got a three cheese tortallini with crab meat. Delicious! And Chris got Lasagna as usual when we eat Italian. Then we went and listened to a band that he is friends with at the Mercy Lounge. It was fun, not exactly my things. I enjoy it much more with friends or with my sister and her husband.
God gave us another great day!
