San Antonio Day 1

Mamaw and Papaw Windham came to visit this week. This was their first time to see our new house and they were very interested in visiting San Antonio. So we joined them and made three days out of it.

First on the agenda, and top priority for Papaw was the Alamo. Actually that was his only request so we set out on foot from our hotel.
We stayed on the Riverwalk so pretty much everything was in walking distance.
Ladybug plops right down on the sidewalk and wants to know that this was. Of course it has the Texas star on it, everything does.

Bit of trivia. Did you know that per law, there can never be a shadow cast on the Alamo. So when all of the buildings around were built, they had to determine how tall it could be built without every casting a shadow and that was as tall as they could be.

The Alamo website has all kinds of information for kids. We printed out a question sheet and it would tell you where to go in the Alamo and what to look for.

We couldn't take pictures inside but there were flags lining the inside that represent what state or country each defender of the Alamo came from and on the flag was a number of how many men were from there. So for instance, there were 2 from Scotland and 30 from Tennessee and 7 from New York, and 11 from Texas, etc. She had to look at each flag and find certain locations.

Here they were looking for what flag was captured when the Alamo fell. Which, by the way was the Toulea Battalion flag.
And Batman was not much interested in the History. He wanted to take a nap on the bench.

Loved visiting the Alamo and learning some of its history. Just like much of Texas there is a ton of history and story to it and it made it so much more interesting to find all of our questions and to understand a little more about each of the things we got to look at.

And one more to finish off the day. We found a fantastic Mexican restaurant for dinner. Best Mexican we have found since moving to Texas.

And I had one little splurge. We saw a "Life is Good" store on the River Walk. I have seen the shirts before and loved the meaning. So I splurged and bought the most expensive T-shirt I have ever bought but Life is Truly Good. And I can't wait to wear it!

Two weeks and counting!

Nope not till school starts. Not for any kids activity. It is actually for myself. It is actually a little vain. And it will be my first cosmetic procedure.

Two weeks from today, I will not not need these anymore. No more contacts, no more contact solution and when I wake up two weeks from today, I am looking forward to seeing the alarm clock!

I am having Lasik done. Until that day, I have to wear my glasses which I never ever do and they are extremely inconvenient with swimming and sunshine everyday but what is two weeks for being able to see forever. (Well at least until I need glasses for reading which they assured me everyone does at some point in their life.)

So I am a little scared and nervous but I am so excited that I wish it were happening sooner!

So I have Lasik on a Thursday and will wake up Friday and can resume normal activity being able to see! I can't wait!

Wacky Wednesday

Our Church has Wacky Wednesday every Wednesday in July for rising 2nd through 4th graders. Each week the kids meet and have lunch together and have a different activity. The First Wednesday there was a magician, which Ladybug loved! The second week they played games. Then this week was water week!
Ready to go with her bathing suit and sunscreen on. They had a fire truck come and spray them with water. Then they played water games out back.
Water, baby soap and a big plastic tarp. Makes for a fun slip and slide.
Batman and I came a little early so I could take some pictures. He got a little wet also.
In here they had a bucket full of ice water. It was freezing. In the bottom was a cross that they kids had to try and get out with their mouth. Ladybug was determined! She tried over and over and kept sticking her head in that cold water.

We will miss next week but Ladybug has had so much fun at Wacky Wednesdays!

Soccer Camp

My Batman has been asking to play soccer for a month since I signed him up. "Is it Fall now" he would keep asking me because it is called Fall Ball. He was asking daily. Well I found out about a soccer camp that holds two camps in our neighborhood during the summer. So I signed him up and he was so excited! It is literary 2 minutes from the house and is three hours a day for one week.

It is pretty hot this week. They are taking 3-4 water breaks an hour and here is Batman on one the breaks.
The red shirts are the coaches and they are doing a fabulous job! Each night they take all the kids from all age groups and they have a devotional for about 20 minutes.

And Batman and one of his bestest friends. If one or the other is home, they are usually one each other's house. Glad they got to do camp together.

On Thursday we had some strong storms blow in and camp got canceled. My son was devastated! We powered through the disappointment and he gets to go for a little extra time today to make up for it. Whew!

Surprised me!

I like for my kids to try anything and everything they want to. I asked Ladybug if she wanted to play basketball and she said yes. So since they have a summer league in the neighborhood and they are pretty much non competitive, I thought it would be a great time for her to learn how to play.

So to set this up for you....

They didn't have enough 8 and 9 year olds to form teams so they moved the 7 year olds up.

Which meant that instead of playing with a shorter basket and only half court, she has to play with the 10 ft. basket and full court.

We only had three practices. She likes to dribble and likes to steal the ball.

She does not have enough power to get the ball up to the hoop to make a basket.

I was very skeptical going into our first game tonight.

Getting ready to play. Once again, she had never played a game of basketball before and I am not sure she has ever seen how a game works.
But I will tell you what!

That girl got out there and dominated the court. She may have been small but she was fast and she was not afraid to take the ball away from the other team. She had her hands up and when the big girls that had 6-8 inches on her had the ball she ran right up to them and guarded them like no one else.

She was stealing the ball and dribbling it back down the court.

For the whole first half, I was like OH MY GOSH! Who is this girl. But boy if she wasn't doing it by the book. She knew she couldn't touch them. She didn't foul anyone. She just played her heart out. I was very impressed.
After the game. They didn't win. It was 12 to 4. But the whole team held their own against a team with a lot of bigger (taller) girls on it. In the end, the other team was able to get the rebounds .

So Ladybug came home and wanted to know how to beat them next time. We talked a lot about the game and things she could do and how to use her teammates and passing the ball and when to play defense and when to play offense. And she is like gung ho for her next game tomorrow!

And on a side note. Most of you know my kids are the energizer bunnies. I can't wear them out. I have tried. Yesterday they had four hours of gymnastics followed by four hours of non stop swimming and they still didn't fall asleep.

After her game tonight, she sat down in the car and asked for an ice cold glass of water and wanted to go to bed! She played all four quarters of the game today and she was exhausted!

Eat Mor Chickin!

Ok, I have seen this promotion in the past. Dress up like the chick fil a cow and you get a free meal.

Not me. I don't like attention. I don't like people looking at me. I definitely don't dress up like a cow and got out in public.

But I am all for a good deal. I have also got my friend gung ho on the coupon thing. So when I saw the posting for the free chick fil a day, I scrolled right by. But she called and said lets go.
So we got to my house and we started googling "how to dress like a cow" (I am not creative at all). But I was impressed with what we came up with.

All the kids were gung ho for the face painting like a cow.

We didn't have enough white shirts so we have chocolate cows and a strawberry cow.

And tails made out of yarn.
And signs around their neck. Well our group of 9 marched into the insanely packed Chick fil a and we allllll got a free meal including drink and fries. I was impressed!

We now have a folder with ideas for next year because I will defiantly be doing this again. In the future I see bells!

Happy Fourth of July

Here is my mantel. We just added the W picture that I found at Kirklands. I found the candlesticks at Hobby Lobby. Those will be permanent there.
Then I saw the USA letter on a blog. I used the paper mache letters from Hobby Lobby and spray painted them Red, white and blue and then we put glitter on each one. I thought they turned out so cute.
