Yep, he is now 34 years old. He is still older than me! Ha!
We had a very nice day today. The kids and I baked Chocolate Chip cookies this morning and took them to daddy at work.
On the counter ready to bake.
Wait, we forgot our aprons that Teri got us for Christmas!
Nathan wanted to get him a lion (since he roars all the time) and Jessica framed one of her watercolors and we took them to work. Chris put the lion on top of his computer and his "masterpiece on the wall.
The kids helped me wrap his presents, yes they sit on the kitchen table and one day I am hoping they will be too big to do this!
All wrapped! Now Nathan get down!
When daddy got home from work, he opened his presents while we were waiting for dinner to finish cooking.
Jessica got him a storage card for his camera. She picked out exactly what she wanted all by herself.
We all got him a 10in digital frame so that he can start displaying more of his photographs.
They kids had to help open, if we would have let them, they would have opened all the presents!
Nice day and I think that Chris has a good birthday.
Last night daddy helped them set up their tent. Over the course of the day, they pulled every pillow and every blanket from all three beds and the couch and stuffed them their tent. It was so heavy I couldn't move it.
Ok, a couple of thoughts.
1. As Nathan woke up this morning and came out of his room, he suddenly looked taller so I measured him. Now, I measured both kids at the beginning of July when we got back from Arizona and Nathan has grown 1.5 inches in the last month!!!! Can you believe that. He is only three and half inches behind Jessica. My little man is getting so big.
2. I am not really using this as a forum for deep thoughts but I read this last night in James Dobson's book Bringing Up Boys.
"Raising children who have been loaned to us for a brief moment outranks every other responsibility."
Man, that brief moment as already been five years for my baby. I already see how fast it can go by. I strongly believe that everything we teach our kids and all the training we provide them, will help them to grow into responsible adults so that they can make their own way in the world. I fully expect them to leave after high school for college responsible, and capable with the resources to take care of themselves but it reminds me how important everyday is up till that day! At this point I can honestly look back over the last five year and not have one regret and not feel that I missed one thing in my kids life. Sure we have made bad decisions and learned from them and there have been times when I just wish I could do what I wanted when ever I want but this brief moment is now and putting that into perspective makes me appreciate even more what we have. It does outrank every other responsibility and this is the best and most rewarding responsibility I have ever had.
