Pumpkins and reading

Friday was a busy day for us! Daddy took the day off and we got to spend the day together at the school volunteering.

We got the kids on the bus and then headed to eat breakfast together before heading to school.

We worked in the workroom in between taking pictures (lots of yearbook stuff happening this week), eating lunch with kids, reading to the class and a little pumpkin carving.

Kinder has a special pumpkin carving day with dads! I have never seen so many dads up at the school at one time! It was so cool!

This was a shot of many of them as they arrived at the school waiting to be let back to the classrooms.

The dads picked the picture to carve. Only rules were, it could not be a face or something scary. Chris had it pre drawn out so the boys could get started right away.

Our theme this year which is embedded in everything that happens at the school is Superheros. So what better design to have! They did a great job!

We have parent readers that come in every Friday for each class in the school. We all sign up for weeks at the beginning of the year and we get to come read to a class for 30 minutes. This was one of my weeks! I let daddy take my place.
He did awesome! The kids all enjoyed him and were listening attentively! Batman loved having his dad read.

All together good day. We all got home and then went to our favorite family restaurant (Chilis) and had a good evening.

Tie dye complete

As requested, here is the final results of the tie dye day. Friday is spirit day so they both wore their shirts. But it was one of those days where Batman was not going to smile for anything. He almost looks like he is in pain. Each grade is a different color. Ladybug is red and Batman is green.

Halloween at gymnastics

This week they have a special day at gymnastics. They decorate the gym and pass out candy, they paint all the kids faces and play games on the gymnastics equipment instead of their normal week of instruction. And the kids get to wear a Halloween costume.



We didn't get Halloween costumes this year. I kept asking them what they wanted to be and they never really said. Plus, I have not had consignment sales to pick up new things and I just don't pay full price for costumes.

So since they don't seem to care, we just went hunting in the closet and this is what they came out with. I thought they both looked great!

Still have no idea what they will be on Monday.

Fun with editing

We had a chance to take some sweet pictures this weekend. I am having some fun editing them.

This is my two year old literally going on 10 sweet friend of mine. She was the perfect model. "You going to take my picture" she kept asking. That was until she was done, then there was to be no more picture taking. Here are a couple shots. I took an editing class and used some of the principles of white balance, cures and color balance and then played with sepia and black and white.

Tie Dye day!

With Thursday came tie dye day. Everyone dressed in old clothes just in case.

The day began early. Tables were set up, volunteers lined up with tin pails and rubber gloves and the dying began.

It is quite a feat to have 950 kids dye shirts in a day. The organizers and P.E. teachers did a fantastic job getting ready for it.

Sweet pea is red for second grade.
Batman is green for kinder.

Most of the time when I am up at school, the kids love to get their picture taken. I walk with my camera and one person turns in to four or five with their arms around each other smiling and asking if they get to be in the yearbook. But today, I have 150 pictures with all the kids concentrating so hard on their tie dying. Kind of funny. I had to get them to look up and smile.

Fun time. Glad I got to be there that day.

Playing in the rain

We have a little obsession right now. Batman loves to play in the rain. I don't know if it is because we have seen very little rain in the last 10 months or if it is just a stage. But every time it rains he wants to go outside and play.

We were driving tonight and he is looking up at the sky and asks if it is going to rain. I tell him no, it is not forecasted. I asked why. He said because he wanted to play in it!

But we have had a little rain lately to help alleviate the huge drought we are in. We had to draw the line at playing in the thunder and lightening....go figure. But here are a few shots of the happiness that abounds from just a little water.

Tying day

Each year our school creates a grade level shirt that is designed for field day. Field day is not until May but they create the shirts in October. They start with a basic white shirt with a school design on it. Then the kids each get to tie dye their shirt. Each grade is a different color.

Well the process happens over time. So last week, we had tying day. They incorporate it into art/P.E. time. The art teacher gives them a lesson on how to tie the shirt to create different designs. So the older the kids, the more intricate the designs she would teach them. Down to Kinder where they had the option of two different designs.
Each grade level is lined up in the gym and a presentation is shown on the wall. Then rubber bands and shirts are passed out and the kids get to create themselves. We had to help more as the kids got younger.
Batman did the surprise design! You throw it up in the air and catch it and then scrunch it into a ball and you get what you get.
And it was also red day. Our school participated in the the world record day where everyone reads the same book. Llama Llama Red Pajama.
And sweet peas design. Looks like she went with the roll it up and rubber band long ways, then she added a couple extra bands on the sides.

Very fun. Next week is the actual dying day. Looking forward to see how that process works!

Just another Saturday morning

Ya know, pep rally at the school at 8:45 followed by a football and soccer game at the same time. First off, the pep rally. Donuts, juice and treat bags for the football players and cheerleaders. Time to introduce everyone and the girls did great doing their cheers and dance for the football players.

I missed the soccer game. Boo. Hate having to miss my man play. But I heard he did good. Then off to lunch with the whole family and no more plans for the day! Yay!

Saturday is Pumpkin Time

Last Saturday we headed to Dewberry Farm. I saw a groupon for half off all four of our tickets which made the trip even better!!

The hole. Yes we arrived, got out of the car and Ladybug stepped in a hole and covered her shoe with mud as well as her hands. She is showing me the hole. lol.
Ok, this was cool. That is a goat at the top. They built these big bridges for the goats to walk on. Every so often, there is a spot for them to eat,
You put food in a little bucket and turn this wheel and it goes up to the goat.
This is the whole contraption they build with notice the Goatel 6 for them to get in the shade.

Batman had the best seat in the house for the pig races.




And Ladybug is fasicinated with ducks. She would have spent just and hour with them.
Duck races. They pumped water down the drain to propel the ducks forward. They liked this.

And some fun in the corn. A week later I think I have finally gotten rid of all of the corn that made it to our house.

These ropes were very cool. They set up a whole barn with ropes all around it for the kids to swing on.
