Chat Chat Chat! My social butterfly.

Chat, Chat, Chat....Chat, Chat Chat... picture this with my daughter's hands opening and closing like a puppet. This is her new most used words concerning school. Let me explain.

On the first full day of school last Friday, I picked Ladybug up in the pickup line and eagerly awaited to hear about her first day of school. This is what I got..

Well mom, you dropped me off at the back of the school.

I walked to my class and sat down. The teacher went "chat, chat, chat, la la la la.."

Then we went on a tour of the school. Borrrrring.

Then we went back to the room and Mrs. Brown went "chat, chat, chat" some more.

Then we threw our gum away (Wait sweetie, you are not supposed to have gum in school and where did you get it from?)

Mom, she gave it too us, we threw it away so we could go to lunch. At lunch my friend C was on my right and my friend A was on my left.

Then after lunch we went back to the room and "chat, chat, chat".

At some point they had an assembly in the gym (I think) where more people (and not just her teacher) did some more "chat, chat chatting." And at some point she went outside and she listed each friend that she played with and all the friends she saw that she has not seen over the summer.

Then mom, you picked me up and here I am.

Ahhhhhhh. Ladybug, did you listen to any of that chatting going on. It was probably important information and rules and instructions for you.

Mom, it was boring.

Let's stop there. My social butterfly is a little confused about school. Kindergarten was a time to get together each day with friends and play and go outside, socialize at lunch, play in rotations and maybe throw in some learning to top it off.

First grade might be a little harder and she doesn't quite realize that it is not all play and a little more work is going to be involved.

So far I really like her teacher and I have heard a lot of good things about her. It took me 30 minutes alone to go through the binder that Mrs. Brown put together and read all the rules and instructions and I have had to refer back to it already and make sure I was following the rules. She is very organized and put together.

But to review...
1. Must read at least 20 books per month
2. Homework three nights a week
3. There is a list of high frequency words to know
4. Spelling tests every Friday.

Me? I love it! Bring on the reading and math! We have already had to set down the rules though. We come home and homework gets done first. That is pretty much a book a day so that alone can take us 20-30 minutes to get through a level one.

I just hope and pray that some of that "chat, chat, chatting" that is borrrrning is actually sinking in and I pray for her teacher as she deals with my socialite!
