Tortola today.
We arrived in Tortola early today. So after getting up and eating we headed off the boat in search of a taxi. It was more expensive here but $20 got us about a 5 minute ride for six to the Dolphin Discovery Center. This was our big event for the kids. When I first told Jessica about the cruise she said she wanted to swim with dolphins.
Pics from breakfast
Well after searching all of the shore excursions, we could not find one where the kids met the age and height requirements. The boats qualifications were more strict. So I found the same company online and booked it myself. It worked out perfect. It was over $100 a person through the boat and I got the same thing for $118 for all four of us. Plus when we got there, we were the only ones in our group so it was just our family with one trainer.
Kids when they first arrived and saw the dolphins in the water
Waiting for their turn
First they showed us a video about the dolphins and how to interact with them and then we got in the water. There was a platform that came up about chest height on me. Jessica couldn’t touch so she just swam and Chris held Nathan. We had life vests on as well. Our Dolphin was named Darwin. She showed us how to pet him and he gave us a kiss and how to shake hands with him. We touched all of his fins and his teeth and danced and sang with him. We were probably in the water for 45 minutes with him.
Jessica loved it. Now Nathan loved most of it but he would not let it kiss him and he wouldn’t hold on to his fins while he was sitting up high in the water but he was all about petting him and touching him. Overall a good experience and great for what I paid. Plus Tracy ended up not going Scuba Diving so we had a photographer there that took pics for us.
I am sure you want to see pics ...mom... I will get some better pics up as soon as I get everything downloaded off of Chris's camera.
Then we headed back to the port area and walked around. We found a bakery and got a huge cookie for the kids. Then we needed to be back on board by 3pm for sailing so we headed back.
We already had our bathing suits on so we headed to lido to eat and swim. For lunch we went to the Fish and Chips Restaurant. Had not made it up there yet and it was delicious. Fish and French Fries cooked to order and Chris also got Fried Oysters. Then we took the kids swimming. This was our first time to use the pools on the boat. So we swam while the boat set sail again. We actually swam for about two hours before we had to head back and get ready for dinner. We spent some time in the hot tub too. The hot tub is like bath water so the kids swam around in there for awhile. There were a bunch of kids in the hot tub. Lol.
I asked where they wanted to go to dinner and Jessica said the kids area again. Too funny. I am glad that they are enjoying it so much. So we took them up and they went right in and sat at their table with their leaders. And we headed to dinner in the dining room. Tonight I had chicken noodle soup and a filet. I cut back a little then Chris and I shared an apple pie and a chocolate melting cake for dessert.
Chris at dinner. The waiters all did this song that kept singing "low, low, low" Chris danced with them.
Then off to play cards again. Tracy and Mark brought a Family Guy trivia so we played one round of that. Of course I don’t watch it so I had no idea of the answers. Then we moved on to Nertz. We went and bought two extra decks of cards from the casino for $1 each so we would have four decks and we played till 10:30. I left the kids in after 10pm tonight because they were having a party with Freddy from 10-11pm. I can’t believe they were still up and running around at almost 11pm with no nap!
Tonight at camp carnival was safari night. So they both came home with faces painted again. Nathan was a zebra and I am not sure what Jessica was. They made and colored these cloth puppets and then had the party that night.
Tomorrow is a day at sea. We are sleeping in in the morning!
Our towel animal tonight. Side note: on the first day, she left us an animal on the counter. Well on the second day, she left it on the bottom bunk which was Nathan's bed. So Jessica was all excited because she was sure that the animal would be on her bed the next night. So after that, we had to strategically relocate the animals so that everyone's bed got a fair amount of animal time!
