Bahamas

Our last day on the boat. Reflecting back, it has been a great week and wouldn’t have changed much but I am ready to head back home.

We slept in again. It was 9am before we woke up. Got everyone up and moving and headed to breakfast again! We ended up getting into the Bahamas about 2 hours early because they said that there was a medical emergency on the ship that needed attending to. So we went ahead and got ready to get off the boat.

I think that this was our worst port as far as preparedness. We once again had nothing planned but I had not even looked at options or a map and when we arrived there were 4 other cruise ships getting in as well so we were looking at 15,000 people getting off onto the island.

We decided to take a ferry over to Paradise Island, which is Atlantis. This ended up not being the best option. It was only $3 per person or $6 round trip, which was good and I was excited about taking the kids on a ferry but they packed us in on the boat. We couldn’t move or look around and it was so terribly hot that the kids just laid on us sweating. We got over there and then had to walk a good bit to get to Atlantis and then we had to keep walking to get to the public beach. The kids got pretty tired. And then the beach was pretty much the closest so there were a lot of people there. Now it was absolutely beautiful. The water was sooo clear and the sand was clean. But there were people walking around selling things all around us and there were no showers to wash off with or bathrooms or places to eat or get drinks.

This was Chance, another little boy that Jessica got to know. He was doing his spiderman.

On the ferry over.

We got so spoiled when we were in Antigua and just happened upon the perfect beach at Ft. Johns and had the whole beach to ourselves. So taking that out of the equation, it was a very pretty beach and the kids just loved the beach and the water and the sand. They would have played in the sand all day had we let them. Nathan found an old can on the beach and would have refilled it and emptied it forever. He also used his crocs as a prop and would fill them in and bury them and then empty them. Tracy and Mark had their beach (waterproof) cards and they played cards with Jessica for awhile.

Then we decided to head back to the boat because the kids were hungry again. I would have liked to explore Atlantis a little because it is somewhere I would like to take the kids when they get a little older and can ride all of the water slides but the kids were pretty tired and we had a little trip to get back.

We decided to forfeit the return tickets on the ferry because of the long walk just to get back to the ferry and found a taxi that took us for $4 each and Nathan for free back to the ship. We talked to several other people that did the same thing.

We got most of the sand off of us and headed to Lido deck for some food. Then Jessica and I took a walk around the ship. Got back to room in time to get ready for dinner.

I know, it is dinner time already. Tonight it was lobster bisque and prime rib. But none of us got dessert. I am officially tired of eating! I have had enough. My stomach is poking out and I feel terrible even though the food has been so good. I told everyone I am back to egg beaters and grilled chicken as soon as we get home. And my home gym is going to be a priority. I only have one day scheduled to work this coming week so I need to get my priorities back in line.

Anyways, after dinner we watched the boat leave the Bahamas and then headed to lido deck to play games. Yahtzee was first on the agenda and then some cards.

At the kids club tonight they were having their farewell party and Jessica couldn’t wait to go! She was very upset this morning before we got off the boat that she couldn’t spend the day there. But I convinced her to go to the beach with us. We saw both of her little boy friends today while we were out, Chance and Derrick and they were both excited about the farewell party. And I once again asked the kids where they wanted to eat dinner and Nathan spoke up first tonight and said kids club! Oh, yeah, I had to bribe Jessica not to go to kids club this morning by giving her a disposable camera that we brought along. She was so excited that she could go tonight and take pictures of all of her friends. We also got a picture of Siti our housekeeper. Chris says we need a Siti at home too. Boy would that be nice.
