I was a little excited. The kids have asked about snow several times and I just have to tell them, it doesn't snow here. I even woke up a few times over night and checked outside to see if we had gotten the 1-3 inches expected.
Nothing! Well, not exactly, the atmosphere up high was too warm for snow, so it was rain but when it hit the freezing cold 20 degree ground, it turned into ice. So we had a blanket of ice which pretty much shut down the city of Houston.
All government offices, colleges, city buses, school and any non essential personal were asked to stay home. There were hundreds of accidents reported. All the bridges and overpasses were ice so cars and trucks were getting stuck on the bridges and almost all of the interstates and all of the outer belt toll roads were closed down.
My table out back.
The dump truck .
The bench.
Tree out front. Then about 11:30 am, the sun came out and I looked outside and I truly thought it was raining very hard. It had hit 32 degrees and everything started melting. All the ice on the house was litteraly pouring like rain down the side of the house. There were puddles everywhere. It was funny to look out front and see all the water flowing down the street from the houses on our street.
So we got a long weekend and an unprecedented snow day from school and the city was back to normal on Saturday with a beautiful day! Here's to warm weather very soon!
