At the last MOPS meeting we created boxes for an Advent calendar. Then I took a suggestion from a friend and created this.

At MOPS we added the paper to the top of each box with different colored scrapbooking paper and put magnets on the back. Then I went and bought two cookie sheets and we already had some chalkboard paint and I painted the cookie sheets with chalkboard paint. Then used chalk to write in the days of the month. I used two sheets so that at the end of the month each kid would have their own new chalkboard to use. Would be great for car rides and playing magnets. Cost $8. Then I used candy and treats that are leftover from parades and yes Halloween to put a treat in each one that we will open after dinner each night.

Then Ladybug made this in school and brought it home today and was so excited about it! It has 24 links and her teacher told her that if she listened and followed directions the first time at home, that she could take a link off each night counting down to Christmas.

And here is Jimmy Bruce today. He was watching from the bathroom. Ladybug got up this morning and I got her dressed and at the table. I went back to the bathroom to dry my hair and a few minutes later she came in on a mission scanning the room and closet looking for him. Too funny. It was also very beneficial today because my son does not like to go to the bathroom by himself even though he is fully capable. I told him Jimmy Bruce is watching and he was good to go by himself.

And lastly, I have decided to do one special thing each day of the month leading up to Christmas. Many involve outings, since you all know I love those and my calendar for the month is filling up very quickly because there are so many free and cheap things to do! But for our first day we took a load of food and paper towels to the Hope Center. I love to do special things for the kids but I really wanted them to understand from the beginning of this adventurous month that it is also very important to give to others. I am not sure if they really "get it" but I can see that at especially Ladybug's age it is becoming important that she understand that Christmas is about celebrating Jesus's birth and a time for giving back and not just a time to get "more and more surprises".

Buy the way I have been collecting this stuff from my coupon shopping of things that I do not use. I spent less than $20 on all of this and plan to make this a reoccuring event by using the great deals to keep taking trips to the Food Bank. Troy runs the Food Bank and came and talked with our MOPS group last month. He says that they will accept anything but when they get money they use it to purchase food since that is their first priority but that they really need paper items especially toilet paper.
Lastly our reading list for tonight
1. The Polar Express - I can't wait for it to come on TV. Love this movie.
2. The Grinch that Stole Christmas
3. The Christmas story
Happy December everyone!
