Kindergarden

It is so neat to watch Ladybug every morning when I drop her off at school. She has her coat on and puts her backpack on all by herself and carries her lunch box by the handles.

She sometimes looks back to say goodbye or I love you. I usually have to remind her to say bye. Sometimes she will try to walk as fast as the car.

But most mornings she jumps out and sees someone she knows and will run to catch up with them or wait for them to catch up and they will look at each other and fall into a conversation like they are the oldest friends. There is no insecurity or awkwardness or unsureness of talking to new friends. I wish I could listen in on her conversations because she gets so engrossed and I always see her smiling.

I envy the childlike innocence. What if adults to could do the same thing and not worry about what other people are thinking and just be themselves without fear of rejection.

She has a friend at school that "is one of her bestest friends". I didn't pick this friend. I don't know her family or go to church with her or go on outings but I get to spend time with her at school and at lunch and I see Ladybug making good decisions.

I had an opportunity to spend time in her classroom last week and was very impressed with her teacher. She was so calm and patient and had complete control over 19 kids the whole time.

I was very worried about Ladybug not being challenged in kindergarten. I don't think she could ever be bored and academically she really needs to move quicker but her teacher doesn't just teach academically. When she talks to them, she explains everything, whether it is a story they are reading or new vocabulary words they aren't familiar with. Ladybug comes home with stories all the time about things she has learned about animals and history and things they have talked about. And her teacher reads a lot of books!

She is growing up. She has asked me for a chore list. I had already bought Dave Ramsey's kids program and we have talked about it but she keeps asking for chores so that she can start earning her own money. So we got our envelopes out and separated the money that she has already gotten into her give, save and spend and her chore list is made out. It officially starts tomorrow and she has her calculator ready to add it up.

Yep, she is growing up.
