Happy 4th birthday Batman

Happy Birthday Batman

Well, I am going to do a little bragging and a little documenting. So just remember as I brag, that this is mama talking.

Wow, can you believe you are four years old today! You have been asking for your birthday to happen for months now. And finally you made it to four.

My sweet son, we have come a long way. Looking back we made it through the first year. You were a great baby. We barely made it through the second year because you epitomized "the terrible twos" for at least a year and a half and you have grown and matured so much in your third year that it simply amazes me to look back and see where you were a year ago.

I thought you would be in second grade before you finally learned your colors, but I am happy to report, that one day this past year, you just all of the sudden knew them. I had no hope for teaching you your letters because I started doubting that I was teaching you the correct letter when you would just look at it like I had no idea what I was talking about. But I am happy to report, that you know all of your letters AND the phonics sounds that go with them (with about 90% accuracy). I am so proud of you.

You have started in on your reading and sounding out words. You are learning how to read (very) short stories. You are beginning to understand picture comprehension from looking at a picture and guessing what the story will be about to reading a story and telling me about it from the picture. You love to paint with glitter glue and love to use markers so much more than crayons.

Oh how you love to help. You love to help cook, stir anything you can get your hands on, lick any think you can. You love to mow the grass and help in the yard. I seriously think you think you are about five years older than you really are. You want to help carry anything you can or move anything.

You are my sports man. Right now your thing is soccer. That is just because you are not old enough yet to play anything else. You dominate the field when you get out to play. You love to get goals and you are very good at it. You have learned how to control the ball, learned small kicks and how to turn the ball to make it go where you want. But when it comes to balls you really do not discriminate. You love to throw and hit anything. You love to hit baseballs and are very good at it. You watch the ball and are not scared.

You are my sweet son. You can be so gentle. You can be so nice. You can be so kind to your family and friends. You give the absolute best hugs and they are not short. You love long bear hugs. When you are sleepy you love to cuddle me and I love when you are still.

But you are also my "Boy". You rarely stop moving. You rarely are not getting into something. Usually something you shouldn't be. You have a short temper. Boy can you get angry and wrinkle your brows and cross your arms and huff at whoever has wronged you.

Last year, you couldn't say your name. You talked very little and most of it could not be understood. You would talk in one word sentences. It was very difficult to know what you wanted. You started speech when you were 31/2 and finally learned to say your name. You started talking and many times you do not stop, even though I still can't understand many times, you are using your voice to tell stories, tell me what happened in school and tell me about friends.

You are developing relationships. When I pick you up from school early, your friends tell you bye and give you high fives and you will give hugs out to those special friends. I love to see that.

You love your sister....you really do not like your sister. It really depends on your mood. You guys are so sweet together and will play kitty like it is nobody's business. But then five minutes later, you are beating each other up and someone is crying, usually your sister.

Your favorite saying right now is "Me boy, you boy." Because you love to do anything "boy" related with daddy. Especially going to the bathroom when we are out. You love to get to go into the boys room instead of the girls with mommy.

Your Favorite bible story is David and Goliath. I think mostly because David knocks out the giant and you get to hit yourself in the forehead to demonstrate and then show how he cuts off his head to take to Saul.

Right now you are singing the ABC's but leave out the letter L. This is so significant because of your speech, you never sang songs when you were little and I love to hear you sing now because you actually enjoy it. I love to see you sing "Open the Eyes of my Heart Lord" and watch you do all the motions that go along with it.

I am so blessed to have you as a son. You are truly an amazing little boy. I can't wait to see what the next year holds in store for you!

One Week old.
