The Elf on the Shelf

With grandparents who work in the toy business, we gets lots of toys and gifts that I would normally never buy for the kids. Well we got another special one that Janma introduced to the kids on Thanksgiving night.

It is called the Elf on the Shelf. It is a box that has a book and an elf inside.

The book explains how it works in a story. Ladybug is holding the elf here. The elf is Santa's helper. He comes out every year about this time and he watches over the kids each day to make sure they are being good. Each night he goes to tell Santa if they are being good or not and each morning he comes back and he is in a different spot to watch over them. The rules are you are not allowed to touch him. You can talk to him all you want (since he has a direct line to Santa) but he will not talk back. He however is allowed to talk to parents.

We had to name him. The Littlest elf in the Rockettes show as named Bruce and Ladybug liked that and Batman wanted Jimmy. So we named him "Jimmy Bruce". So now the kids talk about Jimmy Bruce. Too funny.

The first morning, they woke up to find him in the kitchen. They found him pretty easy.

The next morning he was high up on the clock and it took a little while.

As I layed Ladybug down that first night. She asked if she wasn't good would Santa not bring her anything. I told her that the story goes, you would get coal in you stocking if you were not good and that it was like dirty rocks. She thought for a minutes and very seriously said "I don't want any dirty rocks". The first morning, Jessica woke me up and before getting out of bed, wanted to go find Jimmy Bruce.
