I have not strayed far from home this summer, praying that someone is going to want to show the house and I will dash down to Houston because we got a contract, and begin looking for new houses. But so far that has not happened.
So I thought for a minute and said, "sure, can we go to Kings Island while we are up there?" The next day, he called me and said, "would you like to go to Old Man's Cave as well?"
And sure enough he got a good price on a ticket and our week to Ohio came together very nicely.
The kids and I picked dad up on Fourth of July Sunday, with the car already packed and we headed North.

This was our first gas stop. Batman loves to help pump gas so here are both kids hoping to get a chance to help out!
The ride up was most uneventful. But we did have an amusing, oh say, 45 minutes. I was driving and I was getting sleepy so I was going to pull over on the side and switch places with dad. But in true dad style, he said that was dangerous and that we should take the next exit and don't stop on the ramp but get off the exit. So I did.
That put us onto another interstate with the next exit I believe seven miles away. So I pulled over on the side anyways and we switched and headed for the next exit. Dad still has his blackberry and VZ navigator, which I swore by when I had my blackberry. I now have a droid and it uses google maps and navigator, which I now swear by!
So he has his navigator on and I have my navigator on and we have "The dueling Navigators!" They could not agree on anything. His said take the next exit and turn around and go back (well that is 7 miles there and 7 miles back, so 15-20 minutes to get back to where we started). Mine said turn left and it took me back roads to get back to the interstate. We went with mine. His navigator said "Make the next legal U-turn" for at least the next 15 minutes. It was pretty funny. We got to see a lot of countryside and a bunch of two lane highways and hills but I would say 45 minutes later we were back on the interstate.
We arrived around 9:30 and closed the pool down swimming at 10pm and headed up to bed.
We slept in!
Then around 10 we headed over to see Grandma and Grandpa Hatch. The plan was to stay for a little while and then the kids and I would go back to the hotel and swim and come back later in the afternoon. The past few times, the kids have just been too young to hang out for a long period of time. But we ended up staying almost the whole day!

I brought things for the kids to do and magnets and games and paper and grandpa plopped right down (I mean 86 year old grandpa) and sat and talked with us for the longest time.
After a while, he took us on a tour of the facility. He was a mason and they live in the masonic home in Springfield, Ohio. They are in an unassisted part of the facility where they have their own apartment but are still close enough to get help if they need it.

Love this one. Grandma and Grandpa both have electric chairs and the kids love them.

Grandpa let them take turns riding with him.

The kids had to watch him check the mail.

Love this one too.

We had to check out the weight room.

And they have a train room that was actually two rooms filled with trains and collectibles. A 90 something year old guy watches the room and sets up the trains.

There was one train that had a camera on the front and they would put the image on the tv. Here is Ladybug watching the train.

Grandpa wanted to take the kids to the ice cream shop. The kids liked that!

And we had to check out the pool room!
By this time is was actually almost 3pm. Grandpa needed a nap before dinner, so we stepped out and did a little shopping for about an hour and then went to have dinner with them.

We came back to find grandpa in the bed with the menu over his head.

Great Grandma!

They leave for dinner at 4:30 (or was it 3:30) I can remember. But they pretty much eat one big meal a day and this is it. The dinning room was very nice. White tablecloths, full sit down with waitresses. They have a different special each day or you can order off the menu. It was very good.

Heading out after dinner. I loved this one too.

And a few group shots.

We didn't get finished with dinner till almost 6pm and we went back and said our goodbyes. We had a great day with them.
