First grade had 11 babies this week. As part of their curriculum, they learn about the life cycle of chickens.
They get the eggs in the incubator. I think it takes about 3 weeks to hatch. They document each day any changes taking place.
Well on Monday they started moving and cracking. It took a few days for all of them to hatch.
But in the end they had 11 baby chicks. One egg never did hatch.
Batman with the baby chicks.
Here is the incubator. Once they hatch, they stay in the incubator for another 24 hours to keep warm and grow just a little. The last three were still in the incubator here.
I thought this was totally cool. And the kids loved it! After they hatched they made a paper holder out of a paper bag and decorated it and their daily papers documenting the process came home inside the holder.
