Cinderella and movie night

Friday July 24, 2009

9am - we had an appointment to complete our passports. Yea, everything was perfect and ready to go so we had all four completed in less than 30 minutes.

Here we are at the post office getting our passport paperwork completed.

Then the kids and I were off to the downtown library. They are currently presenting Cinderella in their puppet theater and once again, it was a great performance. They do such a wonderful job. While in Arizona we visited a puppet theater there and it cost $8 each to get in so for the library to do the same quality work for free makes me appreciate it that much more. We may go to this one again. This was our last Friday performance that I can take Jessica to because school is starting. If we want to keep going, then we will have to go on Saturday morning. And I think she gets more out of it the older she gets so we will probably keep going.

Playing with the mouse hole.

Playing inside the library.

I am trying to decide if I want to purchase a library card to the downtown library, we don't live in Davidson county so it is $50 a year and our little library in White House is nice but it is not very big. While in Arizona we used the Peoria library a ton for movies and books and it was great. But I am not sure with the driving we would go as much here. Something keeps stopping me from getting it??

Then we went out onto the patio at the library and ate our lunch and probably played for at least and hour. They have a fountain that the kids put their feet and and they ran with other kids for a while.

Nathan eating his moon pie that he got at the Janet's planet show on Thursday.

Jessica eating her moon pie.

Self portrait of Nathan and me.

Daddy got off work early and took the kids to get ice cream before he headed out for the evening.

Then the kids and I had a movie night at home. I made homemade pizza which the kids actually really liked, I was not sure if they would or not and we ordered Hotel for Dogs off of comcast and cuddled up on the bed to eat and watch. Nice evening.

Haircuts and Science

Thursday July 23, 2009

First thing on the agenda was to get our passport pictures taken at Walgreens. And to pick up some great deals. I got 5 sheets of posterboard for .09cents a piece and an 8 pack of large manilla evenlopes for .59 cents.

Jessica getting her passport pic.

Nathan getting his. At first he was not going to do it. He did not want to stand in front of that white background. He came around and we got a big smile.

Then on to haircuts.

Nathan got a number 2 this time.

And I bobbed Jessica's. She cut off a lot but it looks soooo cute and so much healthier.

My sweet kids. She got done cutting Jessica's hair and said I am so sorry, she looks two years older now! Her kindergarten hair cut.

This evening we headed down to Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. Every Thursday night this summer, they have a family night and bring in child friendly performers. Tonight they had "Janet" from Janet's Planet. She is on channel 8 but I have just never seen her. She did a great job and her little niche is space and science. So she sang songs and asked questions about the stars and planets and constellations. Gave and an activity to do and did a couple of science experiements. The kids enjoyed it.

Jessica found a climbing tree! If there is one to be found, she will find it.

Too cool Nathan in his sunglasses.

Throwing rocks in the pond.

Found some bugs to look at!

Working their way through the bamboo.

Playing in the water.

Eating our dinner and waiting for the show to start.

"Janet". Here she is singing.

This is Jessica's hair cut from the back. Tooo cute. She is watching the show here.

She brought all the kids up to dance. Jessica is right up front of course.

Here she is doing the mentos in diet soda experiement.

Jessica went up to give her best impression of an alien!

She handed out moon pies to the kids and we got a free cd of her music which we listened to on the way home and she gave the kids each a hula hoop on our way out. Fun night. It is a great thing that Cheekwood is putting on. There were a lot of families there enjoying it.

Rainy Day Wednesday

Wednesday July 22, 2009

Yep it was a rainy day today. So I went through all of Jessica's winter clothes and she tried them all on and we got a list of what we still needed put together and I got the rest ready for consignment sales.

Then we headed to swim lessons.

Balancing on the float. He is doing great! He finally has it. Not ready to take his swim test but I bet by the end of the next 8 weeks, he will be ready!

Jessica swimming. Found out today that they have swim meets for kids her age where they just swim for fun since the little ones don't compete. Her teacher told me that she should do one of these. So we may try one and see if she likes it.

We also signed her up for little flippers today. She was sooooo excited. We bought her flippers. and she will start in a few weeks and her teacher will be Ms. Janet. She has been waiting for her to be her little flipper teacher for a year and a half when she passed her swim test!

Nathan on the slide. He finally started wearing the wet suit I bought him and now he does not shiver during class!

Jessica balancing. Ms. Beverly would let them climb up and then shake it to knock them off.

Here is Jessica's class. Too cute swimming to the other end.

Jessica jumping off the diving board.

This is after her lesson and she is getting out.

We went to Wendy's for lunch. We have packed a lunch for the last couple of weeks so we went out today. Here Nathan is playing spider. He walks his fingers up and down your arms and head and pretends that it is a spider. Not sure where he got that but he was doing it to me and I told him to stop while I was eating and Jessica said he could do it to her so he got up and moved over to sit with Jess.

Then we headed to target to get some items on sale - I spent ten dollars and got a bunch of stuff.

pink erasers 2 for .20 cents (bought 4)
glue sticks 2 for .20 cents (bought about 8)
pencil sharpeners .20 cents (bought 2)
composition notebooks .50 cents (bought 3)
construction paper .87 cents (bought 2) (100 sheets each)
crayons for .27 cents (bought 2)

I have a list for walgreens and we are going to head there tomorrow.

Then we headed to Kohls. Now I do not go shopping with the kids. I just don't do it, it is not fun. I usually get all their stuff at consignment sales and I really don't shop for myself. Butttt, Kohls was having a one day sale and I had an additional 30% off of everything I bought and it is getting hard to buy the kids clothes because Jessica and Nathan both wear a different size top with a different size bottom so matching outfits up is hard.

I was "that" mom today and I hate being that mom. You know the ones that yell "stop that", "come here", "get out from under the racks!", "what are you thinking?", "please hold still", "just one more outfit to try on", "Stop fighting!", "put your shoes back on!", "we are almost done, I promise!". But we made it through and I felt good about all of my purchaes.

My rule of thumb is for used clothes is about $5 for an outfit. Nicer ones I will pay up to seven and I got some nice outfits for just a little more than that. So here ya go mom, pictures of everything.

Jessica's new school shoes. Orginally $35, on sale for $24, paid $16.80. Kind of expensive but they are new balance. I personally like Nike but the Nike ones had ties on it and she said no way!

Pants and sweatshirts for Nathan were orignially $12, on sale for $6.oo, and paid $4.20 each

I just thought this was cute it was $16, clearanced for $4.80 and I paid $3.36.

I also thought this was cute, it was $12, on sale for $4.80 so I got it for $3.36

Jessica needed a white shirt to layer it was also $12 and I got it for $3.36

Clearance shirts for Nathan (that will also match the pants for fall. They were $12 and on clearance for $3.60 and I got them for $2.52. Probably best purchases.

No she does not need another dress but I loved this for next summer. It was originally $24, clearanced fo $9.60 and I paid $6.72!

Jessica school outfits. Eacg piece was $14 and on sale for $7, and I paid, $4.90 each. I little high but they can mix and match and fit her good.

All in all, a good day. Hoping for some sunshine tomorrow!

Movies and water!

Tuesday July 21, 2009

We headed to the free movies again today. Space Chimps was playing and it was a pretty cute movie. Jessica enjoyed it and Nathan sat through most of it. We are still eating on Easter candy so they each picked out a few pieces to take with them to eat during the movie.

Then we went over to the fountains. We met up with friends again and had a nice afternoon playing. Jessica was a little out of sorts but soon started playing. For 2.5 hours they actually only played in the fountain for a few minutes but they are all about the buckets and filling them up and carrying them around.

We had a picnic before playing in the water. They are waiting for their food here.

Taking a break.

Jessica and her friend Josh.

Ok, here is Nathan rolling A up in our blanket. He though it was hilarious!

Then they had to switch. Nathan is in that pile somewhere! It is so cool to see Nathan begin talking and developing relationships. They took turns very nicely rolling each other up. He had a friend yesterday that he was having a conservation with. He is getting so big!

He thought it was great to get in my chair every time I got up, but he got it wet every time.

Nathan playing with his friend. She had torn up bits of paper towels and was playing with them in the water and Nathan walked up and said "what you doing".

Ok, This is Jessica and "C". One of the potential husbands and they are looking just a little tooo close here. But is was very cute.

Nathan beating up that water!

He found a truck to play with and would roll it down the hill and chase it.

Friends playing.

Nathan would play in the water and then come tell me he was cold. He wanted a "cold" looking picture taken.

Playing with the water.

Since it was a nice day and there issss an ice cream shop right there, we went and got ice cream again. Jessica wanted what I had last week when we went to get ice cream. It is a cookie dough something. We got dark chocolate ice cream with cookie dough, fudge and chocolate chips mixed in. Yum.

Here they had to stop and look at something on the ground.

So sweet!! They did this all by themselves. A little stair step.

Nathan had a little thinking time before getting in the car. lol.

Side note, as I am sitting here typing, I put the tv on for the kids so III could have some quiet time. Well, the commercial came on and that is Nathan's signal to beat his sister up. They both came running out of the room telling each other to stop and Nathan looks as me and said "she hit me first!" Gotta love it!
