Candy Cane Fun Run

Saturday morning started out very early this week.  It was the second annual Candy Can Fun Run.  The three elementary schools in our neighbor/subdivision came together and created the Candy Cane Fun Run as an event to bring our schools together.  Our school has a "Fit Girls and "Iron Boys for all the fourth and fifth graders that want to participate.  Both boys and girls run in the afternoons after school building their endurance to complete the 5K in december.   The boys also have strength building stations and the girls read a book and discuss it as part of the program.

This year we had 1700 people participating.  The beginning and the end of the race started at our school.  There were over 400 kids alone in the Iron Boys and Fit girls that signed up to run.  It is very cool to see all the kids, their parents and so many teachers running.

Chris and I went to take pictures.  Unfortunately running 3 miles on a Saturday morning is not my idea of fun at this point in my life.  But I am mentally preparing because Ladybug has already told me she will be doing it next year.

 Ladybug and some friends.
 Batan and his bestie.
 Face Painting time.
Ladybug and Batman got a little bored as I took pictures of everyone crossing the finish line.  But they had their blue slushies to pass the time.

Please note.  December 8th.  Sun shining.  Short, t-shirts, I was actually sweating.  Slushies were a good treat to cool off with at 9AM in the morning!

Two days later.  December 10th.  It is cloudy, dreary, freezing cold, like winter jackets and earmuffs cold, and the wind is blowing on top of that.  Yuck!
Batman and our VIPS coordinators in front of Frosty!  He thought it was so cool that she picked him up.
And Ladybug and I.  Notice our bling shirts.  Two candy canes that make a heart.  Loved these.
Ladybug getting her face painted.
 The fire truck was there!
And Batman with Frosty.

Very successful event for our community!
