So where do I start. This was one of those times I just have to write down before I forget!
My sweet pea is struggling with her attitude lately. My once go with the flow, listen to mom little girl is really testing this mama with her comments and responses and attitude toward daily activities.
So we are eating lunch on Sunday. We only had about 30 minutes after church and before softball practice to change, eat and get to the fields.
Batman has the pringles and instead of just simply asking for some chips, Ladybug jumps down from the table, walks around and takes the can out of his hands. So we immediately correct her and tell her to sit back down and ask nicely. She gets angry and won't ask him and sits and sulks. I tell her to hurry because we need to leave.
She states, "I don't want to go to practice". So Chris and I jump right on that wagon and said ok, we don't have to go. Well, that doesn't make her happy either.
My defiant little girl says, "Fine, I will just walk myself." Chris and I are just looking at each other. A few minutes later, she gets down and walks away.
She very calmy went and got her softball backpack. She looks at me and says very nicely, I got all my stuff, made sure everything was in my bag and I grabbed some water from the fridge. Then she walks out the door and leaves.
Wow! Now, first of all, if I would have told her to check her back and get water and not followed up, we would have gotten to practice missing something and she would be crying because she didn't have anything to drink when she got hot.
So Chris and I sneak out and sure enough, there she goes. Walking in her cleats (which she also put on herself) with her big backpack with her bat sticking out!
She turned around once but kept on walking.
Chris jumped in the truck and followed her. She made it to the corner of our little area and was heading toward the park, Chris said he pulled up and asked if she wanted a ride and she got in.
I came to practice a few minutes later and when I got there she was waving and signing I love you and was back to being happy.
Of course I will never just let my 7 year old walk to practice by herself. But, I couldn't help but be proud of her. She did what she knew she was supposed to do, took care of it herself without being asked and she made a decision and stuck with it. Those are all the things we are trying to get a across right now.
Hoping and praying we can guide her though this defiant stage and help her to adjust her attitude and the "I know it already" stance she is taking when we try to talk to her about it.
Fun times!
